Outreach Updates With Eylina Ogden

With the school year in full swing for most of our partnering districts, August was a month focused on our Transition to Work Program. This program teaches employable skills to high school students in special education classrooms through 10 weeks of high-quality art instruction. This Fall, We Care Arts is distributing a total of 532 art kits to students in 24 schools across the Greater Miami Valley, reaching 90 more students than were served in Spring 2025. Special thanks to our volunteers from Porter-Wright who made our kit packing day a success!

Also in August, our Outreach program welcomed a new partner in Broader Horizons. Broader Horizons is a community-based recreational program for adults 21+ primarily with autism spectrum disorders. The program offers the opportunity for people to make friends and socialize through group activities. In our first class hosted at We Care Arts Berkeley Campus, participants enjoyed a watercolor zentangle lesson. In our August class at YWCA, participants created salt-watercolor paintings, adding their own spin to an instructor-led project. At Safehaven, participants created fall wreaths to beautify their spaces, and through community partnership, some chose to submit their work to a regional competition.
