Together, We Can Keep Our Community Strong

Your Voice Matters in the Upcoming Human Services Levy

Dear Friends of We Care Arts,

Usually, in this article I focus on We Care Arts specifically. However, today I need to broaden that discussion a bit to discuss a community issue that one way or another will impact our ability to provide services to those who need us. This fall, our community will make an important decision: whether to renew the Human Services Levy. At We Care Arts, we know firsthand how much this levy means to the lives of those we serve—and to the health of our community as a whole.

Here’s the good news: a “Yes” vote will not raise taxes. But the impact of a “No” vote would be felt deeply and immediately. A “No” vote doesn’t mean the needs go away—it simply means fewer resources to meet them.

At We Care Arts, that could look like:

  • The loss of up to 2,000 hours of monthly programming, including mental health supports, peer connections, and safe community spaces for those living with economic hardship.
  • The disappearance of up to 286 monthly classes for individuals with developmental disabilities, reducing opportunities for integration and growth.
  • The loss of 800+ hours of creative skill-building in special education classrooms each month, where students often do not have access to art.
  • Reduced support for job training and employment pathways—over 90 hours of training per month that help individuals find purpose and independence.

We’ve seen the difference this levy makes. Since 2023, our artist-clients with patterns of annual hospitalization have cut their hospitalizations by more than half. Each avoided hospitalization saves thousands of dollars in community supported Medicaid costs while protecting lives and families. This is the kind of ripple effect that the levy makes possible.

We need your help to spread the word. Talk to your neighbors, your friends, your faith communities—anyone who will listen. Share that a Yes vote does not raise taxes, but protects vital services that save money, save lives, and build a stronger, more inclusive community.

Together, we can keep the promise of hope, healing, and opportunity alive.

Thank you for standing with us—always. Your support fuels the creativity, courage, and community we see every single day.

As always with gratitude and hope,

Katie Neubert

Executive Director, We Care Arts

P.S. Saying “YES” to the levy helps all of us. Saying “yes” to a little donation to We Care Arts today? That helps make sure we never run out of paint—or coffee. 🎨☕ (Both are mission-critical!) 😉
