Outreach: Making New Connections In The Community

Summer has been a time of growth for our Outreach department at We Care Arts! In July, we launched three new programs in collaboration with SafeHaven, Brigid’s Path, and the Alzheimer’s Association, aiming to reach new participants in our community and beyond.

SafeHaven is a peer center offering adults in need of mental health support educational, social, and vocational support in a safe environment. Participants of all ages enjoyed working side by side on clay coil pots in one of our July classes.

Brigid’s Path works to improve the health of newborn babies and mothers impacted by addiction in our community. In our Outreach program, we emphasize projects that give mothers the option to create alongside their child, giving them both an outlet for artistic expression and bonding.

Finally, this month we became a new Memory Café site in our partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. Memory Cafes provide persons living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias and their loved ones an opportunity to connect and enjoy socializing in a relaxed setting. Our Memory Café focuses on bringing people together through mindfulness artmaking, and is held every 4th Monday of the month at We Care Arts.

As the school year approaches, Outreach is busy preparing to begin our Transition to Work Program once again. Our Transition to Work (TTW) Art Kit program is tailored for high school special education programs; we currently serve 27 schools in 4 counties throughout the Greater Miami Valley. This program is completely free to participants thanks to generous grants and donations. Students each receive a kit with supplies for 10 weekly art projects. Teachers receive their own art kit along with a link and QR code that grants them access to our YouTube playlist, where We Care Arts provides video instruction for each project. In addition, new to Fall 2025, teachers will receive an ODE-aligned lesson plan for each project. This fall, students will be learning watercolor and collage techniques through this program. Examples of projects included this year can be seen below.
