With the holidays approaching, We Care Arts Outreach put together and distributed 60 art kits to take the place of classes that would have been missed due to Thanksgiving, ensuring participants did not miss out on a creative outlet during a time that can be as stressful as it is exciting. These kits were distributed by our partners at Eastway, Brigid’s Path, Daybreak, and the Alzheimer’s Association and included all materials and instructions needed to create a stained glass lantern.
Outreach Updates: December
Outreach Updates
In November, Outreach focused on mindfulness through watercolor painting and natural dying techniques. At Eastway, artist-clients learned hapa zome, a Japanese practice of using crushed flowers to dye fabric. We also partnered with the Dayton Metro Library to complete a mindfulness painting exercise, creating a watercolor painting of an ocean scene
As we head towards the end of 2025, Outreach is busy preparing to begin our Transition to Work Program for the Spring Semester. Our Transition to Work (TTW) Art Kit program is tailored for high school special education programs; we currently serve 27 schools in 4 counties throughout the Greater Miami Valley. This program is completely free to participants thanks to generous grants and donations. Students each receive a kit with supplies for 10 weekly art projects. Teachers receive their own art kit along with a link and QR code that grants them access to our YouTube playlist, where We Care Arts provides video instruction for each project. This Spring, students will be exploring sculpture and nature-based art in projects like the examples shown below. If you and your school would like to join the Transition to Work program, there is still time! The ordering deadline for Spring 2026 is December 15th.
