October: Letter From The Executive Director, Katie Neubert

This October, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey we’ve taken together over the past three years. Since I joined We Care Arts at the end of  September 2022, your vision, generosity, and steadfast support—paired with the stability of community partners like Bockrath Flooring & Rugs and the Human Services Levy—have made transformative growth possible.

In just three years, we’ve achieved milestones that once seemed out of reach:

Turned around operations and finances: From a net loss in 2022 to sustainable growth by this September 2025, while increasing program service hours from 2,800 (2022) to nearly 40,000 (2024), a 1,309% increase!

Expanded programs and our team: Tripled the number of artist-clients in ArtWORKS, filled Employment Services shifts, and grew staff from mostly hourly workers to a professional staff with stronger pay and benefits dedicated to our mission and those we serve.

Strengthened compliance and strategy: Regained full OHMAS and DODD certifications, restored CARF accreditation, and launched a 5-year strategic plan ensuring the quality and integrity of our services.

Invested in our spaces: Replaced the roof, built a safe egress from classrooms, and began drying our 110-year-old basement.

We care Arts has expanded its direct impact from serving 532 individuals to over 3,000 in 2024 across the Greater Miami Valley. But it is so important to remember that behind these numbers are the individual lives…the people…our family members, our friends, and our neighbors who are forever changed by our dedication to our mission and your unwavering support. As artist-client Lana T. shared:

"Being true to my artistic self has been the key to my surviving things that should have killed me and I am grateful to have a second chance. We Care Arts came just at the right time, I have looked for mental health support for 50 years...It wasn't until I came here that the healing started to manifest itself."

 Lana  T.

Lana’s testimony even more than the numbers shows what’s possible when we come together as donors, advocates, and community members. But there is more to do—and we cannot do it without you.

This fall, your voice matters. Vote Yes on Issue #1 to support the Human Services Levy to protect vital programs like We Care Arts. And as Giving Tuesday and Year-end giving approach, please stand with us once again. Your generosity today and throughout the year ensures that the momentum we’ve built does not just continue, but takes flight—expanding hope, opportunity, and healing across the Greater Miami Valley.

Together, we’ve accomplished so much. Together, we are ready to soar.

Gratefully standing with you, ready to fly,

Katie
