Curator's Corner with Art Curator, Lacey Lantz

Hello everyone,

I’m Lacey, the Art Curator here at We Care Arts, and I’m excited to share some updates for the month of May!

We currently have four artist-clients whose work is featured in Art Possible Ohio’s Accessible Expressions Ohio exhibit, and two of them received awards!

I’m excited to share that Austin R. earned 2nd place in the Emerging Artist category for his piece “Creepy Creature #2,” and Elizabeth H. received 3rd place in the same category for her piece “Gerard.”

I’m incredibly proud of their growth as artists and the hard work they put into creating these pieces. Check out the link for a virtual walkthrough of the Accessible Expressions Ohio gallery!

Art created by We Care Art’s artist-clients will be shown at Woodbourne Library for their America 250th Art Exhibit Interpretation Ohio Creates: Arts, Culture & Literature.

This exhibit is a vibrant celebration of creativity shaped by the lived experiences, perspectives, and talents of artists with disabilities from Ohio. Grounded in a mission of empowering healing through art and community, this exhibition invites visitors to engage with a diverse range of visual works that reflect both individual journeys and shared human themes.

Presented in recognition of the upcoming America 250 anniversary, this exhibit highlights the voices of Ohio residents as essential contributors to the nation’s cultural story. Through color, form, and imagination, each piece offers a window into personal expression. Revealing how art can serve as a powerful tool for communication, connection, and emotional healing. These works honor not only individual experiences, but also the broader spirit of creativity and resilience that continues to shape America.

Ohio Creates not only celebrates artistic achievement but also affirms the value of diverse ways of thinking, creating, and experiencing the world. Encouraging all who visit to reflect, connect, and see through new perspectives. Come by Woodbourne Library in Centerville to check out the art, now until June 3rd! The artwork of Artist-Clients, Ben S., Lane A. and Ruth H., are included in the exhibit.

As always, keep an eye out for an art display refresh at EudoraWholly Grounds10 Wilmington Place and at Dayton Live Schuster Center.

Thank you for your continued support of We Care Arts!

Lacey
