We Care Arts Mission Moment: WCA & the MAC

Mission Moment at the Middletown Arts Center

One example of the impact of your connected support happened recently when not just one BUT THREE (3!!!) pieces of artwork created in our studios by WCA artist-clients were recently accepted into the Area Art Exhibition at the Middletown Arts Center. This juried show featured submissions from regional artists, teachers, and well-known creatives across the area. Our pieces were judged anonymously, meaning the juror didn’t know they came from We Care Arts which is a wonderful example of our participants being recognized not for their diagnosis but as artists first.

Out of nearly 275 entries, over 100 were declined, so the acceptance of works by WCA artists Micah J., Emma K., and Jen S. was a proud moment for all of us. As Middletown Arts Center Executive Director Kate Morrow shared that the Area Art Exhibition running until 12.11.2025, “was a tough exhibit… including a lot of really lovely work [that had to be declined].”

These accomplishments shine a light on the impact of your giving. Every brush, class, and supportive conversation that nurtured these artists was made possible through the contributions of people who believe in our mission.

Where Art Builds Connection

At the exhibit opening, I was struck by how art bridges people and places. I saw familiar faces, Dayton artists from Front Street and Rosewood, Together We Care community members, and even a Town & Country Mall walker who often stops into our store to chat with our Employment Services clients. That Employment Services Sales-Associate client, now one of the accepted artists, had their artwork proudly displayed in the gallery opening surrounded by people coming together as admiring art lovers. These are the moments when art becomes the language of inclusion.

It is the We Care Arts’ wraparound services that build confidence, friendships, employment skills, and community engagement that empowers healing through art and community. From studio sessions to employment coaching to gallery exhibits, every act of giving helps someone find their place to belong.
