2016 Featured Artist Event
Kathleen Lorring’s story
A graphic designer, Kathleen owned her own business for fifteen years. She retired after being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and is now one of WCA’s most adamant client/artists. Kathleen’s unique pottery designs reflect the passion that she brings to all her artwork. She also draws and paints. Beyond WCA, Kathleen attends group therapy sessions and learns about mental illness. She is a member of NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness). She says, “I’m active but not an activist. If I’m not aware, then I’m turning my back on my illness and allowing stigma to repress an important part of my personality.” She reflects, “I came [to We Care Arts] wanting to do art and I found that people here really touched my heart.”
